Early Morning MVC - DuPont Hwy s/o Gumtree Rd
Tuesday, May 31, 2005

Early Tuesday morning, 5/31/05, the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company, Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company(EMS), Sussex County EMS Medic 103 and Trooper II were alerted for a serious MVC on DuPont Hwy. Initial reports advised that one person was ejected and one person was still trapped. Officers were quickly advised that both Delaware and Maryland Aviation were down due to weather. Assistant Chief Brain Hitchens arrived on scene and advised incoming units that one patient was in the roadway and the second patient was walking around and refusing treatment. Engine 76-2 arrived on scene with Deputy Chief Tommy Bacon establishing Command. Scene size up revealed that the vehicle traveling southbound had lost control and collided with at least four vehicles at a used car lot. The crew from 76-2 assisted A-76 with patient care. A-76 w/ M103 transported the patient to Beebe Medical Center. Ambulance B-76 responded and transported the second patient after she decided to be evaluated. Additional units responding included Rescue / Engine 76-3 and FVFC Fire Police. The scene was turned over to Fire Police and later a Delaware DOT Transportation Supervisor.
